Herbert Wolff, CPA, like so many of his generation, was drafted in 1950 and then utilized the GI Bill to help finance his education. Attending NYU, Herbert first pursued an education in law. He quickly realized that the combination of law and accounting would give him a unique advantage, so he studied both, pursuing accounting and law degrees, and in 1957 passed the Bar exam and became a Certified Public Accountant. Either one would have been an accomplishment in its own right, but he did both at the same time. He earned his Masters in Taxation a few years later and then made a more definitive transition into a career in accounting. With his background in law and the CPA designation, Herbert has been able to add special value to the firm’s clients by providing them with the expertise he gained as an attorney combined with the financial perspective of a CPA. In this way he provides clients with access to a full range of personal and corporate tax planning and compliance services, along with the resources and business advice so important for small and mid-sized comapnies. Over the years Herb has developed an expertise working with personal service companies and law firms, where his “insider” viewpoint is useful. Owners of closely-held businesses particularly appreciate the small business management services he delivers, serving in many cases as the “back office” support system for those companies who do not need in-house infrastructure.
His expertise also includes financing, workout situations, bankruptcy, liquidations, reorganizations and business valuations, which will enable him to complement the other client services offered at the Resnick Druckman Group, where Herb currently is a Partner after the merger with his previous firm, Gilbert & Wolff in late 2009.
His knowledge of the needs of middle market companies earned him a role on the Closely-Held and “S” Corp committee at the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Aside from his professional affiliations, Herb was the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Maimonides Medical Center where he currently still holds a position as a member of the Board. He served on the Board of Directors of FOJP, served as Vice-President of Young Israel of Flatbush and also was the Treasurer and Trustee of Yeshivah of Flatbush.
Herbert and his wife reside in New York City. They have 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren.Contact Information:
